The collection and treatment of municipal waste from the six local self-governments of Rasina and Toplica districts will be unified at the regional landfill in Krusevac. Combined, these six local self-governments, Krusevac, Brus, Aleksandrovac, Varvarin and Cicevac (Rasina) and Blace (Toplica), have around 200,000 residents.

The works on this project are expected to begin in mid-2021. A total of EUR 33 million has been provided with the support of KfW for the financing of the first phase of the construction of facilities for the regional management of municipal waste for the Krusevac and Vranje region, of which EUR 11 million is the donation, and 22 million is a favorable loan, the government says on its website.

The head of the KfW office in Serbia, Arne Goss, said that the agreement was the first step toward establishing an efficient waste management system in that part of Serbia and noted that Krusevac had turned out to be an important partner and an environmentally aware city.

Goss added that Germany provided great support to Serbia, especially in the field of environmental protection, considering that, of around EUR 2 billion in donations, close to 70% is directed at this field.
