The members of the National Assembly of Serbia adopted the Law on Staro Sajmiste Memorial Center on February 24 with a majority vote of 159, for the purpose of, as said in the proposal, fulfilling the duty of keeping a permanent memory of the victims of the Holocaust and the WW2 genocide.

As previously explained by the minister of culture and information, Vladan Vukosavljevic, on behalf of the proposers, the law is meant to found an institution dedicated to preserving the memory of the victims and the historic events that took place in the Staro Sajmiste location, where the Jewish Camp in Zemun and the Zemun Concentration Camp were located during the Nazi occupation.

He explained at the National Assembly that, among other things, the Staro Sajmiste Memorial Center will collect, arrange, keep, exhibit, maintain and utilize, research and present museum, archive and film documents and items.
