Albania joins Regional Portal of Business Registers

The Business Registers Agency of the Republic of Serbia has announced that the Annex to the Agreement on the Founding and Running of the Regional Portal of Business Registers of Southeast Europe (Business and Financial Data Exchange – BIFIDEX) was signed on Thursday, February 20, in Tirana.

The annex was signed by the president of the Management Board of the Portal and the director of the Business Registers Agency of Serbia, Milan Lucic, and the director of the National Business Center of the Republic of Albania, Pranvera Fagu.

The business register of Albania, with around 160,000 registered business entities, thereby joined the regional portal. In July 2019, the portal was joined by the Republika Srpska Agency for Mediation, Information and Financial Services and Montenegro's Central Register of Business Entities.

The founding and development of the regional IT portal of business registers of the Western Balkans was financially supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the establishment of the portal was enabled by the Central Register of North Macedonia and the Serbian Business Registers Agency, which has become the owner of the source code of this portal, which other business registers have the right to use, thanks to its considerable financial funds and human resources invested in the project.

On the same date, the workshop called “The Development of the Regional Portal of Business Registers” was held in Tirana, where representatives of the register institutions of the Western Balkans were introduced to the current status of BIFIDEX, its business model, market analysis and demand, the experiences so far and the “road map” for the WB6 partners.

The regional portal is an information platform which is a single point of access to official and up-to-date data on registered business entities. Since its launch on March 29, 2019, interested users are provided with non-commercial services, with business and financial data from the business registers of Serbia and North Macedonia.

The aim is to provide enable the access and technical integration of other register institutions from the region in the upcoming period, so that commercial services and business information services, which would facilitate cross-border trade and operations, to the end of improving the business climate in the Western Balkans, would be offered through the portal, the press release says.
