Preliminary design of new terminal building at Nis Airport to be prepared soon – Million passengers a year expected

The announced construction of the new terminal building at the Nis Constantine the Great Airport will enable the handling of a minimum of 1,000,000 passengers a year and secure smooth operations in peak hours, entailing the handling of over 1,200 passengers per hour, that is, four aircraft simultaneously. As said, the public procurement procedure for the preparation of the technical documentation has been completed and a preliminary design is expected within 70 days.

– The current terminal building is designed for 200,000 passengers a year. However, as can be seen, in the past years, we've served a far greater number of passengers. In 2019, a total of 422,255 passengers used the services of the Nis Airport – the Airports of Serbia told Niske Vesti.

They add that the plan is for a new terminal building of around 5,000 m2 to be built, will all the modern features necessary for the functioning of a modern airport. It will also be connected with the current facility, which is to be adapted.

They add that the procedure of the preparation of the project-technical documentation for the construction of a new terminal building and its connecting with the current one has been initiated.

That an expansion of the airport is necessary is also shown by the statistics, according to which there was an increase of 57.8% in the number of passengers at the Nis Airport compared to January 2019.
