The wastewater treatment unit of factory "Alltech-Fermin" was put in operation yesterday (December 1st, 2009). What is unique in "Alltech" is the fact that heating and electric energy for this industrial facility will be produced at one place, based on which the renewable energy sources will be used to the maximum. Construction of this unit worth 25m EUR has been supported by local self-government, Provincial Government and the Government of Republic of Serbia.

The ribbon was cut in the presence of the President of the Executive Council of AP Vojvodina, Dr. Bojan Pajtić, the Mayor of Senta, Zoltan Pek, and the President of "Alltech", Dr. Pearse Lyons.

The President of "Alltech", Dr. Lyons, explained that the unit would do both anaerobic and aerobic treatment of wastewater and turn biological waste into biogas, which will then be used for production of electric energy. In that way, consumption of gas and electricity in this unit will be cut by up to 37% and up to 34%, respectively. In addition to electricity and gas, hot water created during the work of the unit for combined production will be used for heating various processes in this unit.

As Dr. Lyons explained, the good news is that the Government of Serbia announced that it would promote investments in renewable energy sources in 2010, which should result in very favorable prices of energy from renewable sources when compare to the energy obtained from oil or gas.

The Director General of "Alltech" factory in Senta, Dr. Ujvari Tibor, pointed out that five cutting-edge technologies were combined in that factory in order for the best possible environment-friendly product to be made. The factory produces over 8,000 tons of yeast a year, it has over 240 employees, and it is the leader in the region in production of yeast an other yeast-based products.
