The Corridors of Serbia have signed an agreement on the construction of the Sopot Interchange with Integral Inzenjering. The value of the works is EUR 2,179,164.83, and the completion deadline period is one year.
The project documentation envisages the construction of two three-way intersections with a grade-separation route, which connects to the E80 highway via an overpass. The length of the overpass is 104.9 meters and the length of the connection is 362 m.
As the Corridors announced, after the eastern leg of Corridor 10 was built, the E80 highway, the connection between IIA state roads 221 (Knjazevac-Temska-Dimitrovgrad) and 259 (Nis-Pirot) had to be removed.
– Taking into consideration the requests of the residents of about seventeen villages in the Pirot area and the local-self government, the Corridors of Serbia prepared the project documentation, secured the funds from the savings within the loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and carried out a public procurement procedure for the construction of the connection between said state roads, in the same place, after the construction of a highway between them – the press release says.
The construction of the Sopot Interchange will unload the zone of the Pirot West Interchange, as a part of the local and transit traffic will be moved to the former.
This road will also be the shortest and quickest connection of Bela Palanka and Pirot with the Stara Planina Nature Park, the Temska Monastery and Knjazevac, and it will also stimulate the development of tourism and the general progress of the Stara Planina villages and the area of eastern Serbia that gravitates toward this point.
