The Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, Božidar Đelić, and the Mayor of Leskovac, Slobodan Kocić, announced yesterday (November 22, 2009) that, in addition to the institutions in Belgrade, Vršac and Zrenjanin, one of the biomedical and pharmaceutical centers would also be opened in Leskovac. Đelić and Kocić said that the conditions for opening one such scientific center existed since drugs factory "Zdravlje Actavis" and Miodrag Stojković's Special hospital for artificial insemination were situated in Leskovac.

They added that there were large number of companies interested in opening pharmaceutical wholesale centers.

- There is a possibility for Leskovac to become known not only as agricultural region, but also as one of the big centers of our country and the Balkans in the domain of industry, that is, pharmacy and health care that have a great future - said Đelić.

He added that, for that purpose, the way must be found for Leskovac to obtain certain share of 200m EUR that Serbian Government had obtained from international organizations for development of science and technology. The idea for opening a scientific center has come from the management of Leskovac, and Mayor Kocić pointed out that Đelić had promised support to that project.
