The year 2019 was a record breaking year for tourism in Serbia, as confirmed by the growth of the number of guests and the consequent foreign exchange inflow. As the Tourism Organization of Serbia (TOS) says, a double-digit growth of the number of tourists and overnight stays has been recorded for the fourth year in a row.

The latest data show that, as of October, Serbia was visited by 3.1 million tourists and there were 8.7 million overnight stays, 6% more than in the same period last year.

All this confirms that the year will end with all-time high results in tourism, says the director of the TOS, Marija Labovic, in a statement for Tanjug.

She points out that the foreign exchange inflow in tourism had a 7% increase compared to the same period last year.

– We expect to exceed the last year’s amount of EUR 1.3 billion and maybe reach EUR 1.5 billion once all the year’s data are included in the statistics – Labovic says.

Serbia is mostly visited by guests from the region, primarily Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, followed by guests from China, Turkey, Russia, the number of whom has considerably increased, Germany…

Labovic says that the upcoming year is expected to be good for tourism as well, as there have been plenty of investments in transportation infrastructure, and tourist destinations have also done a lot to raise the quality of the offer.

– We plan to continue the promotional campaigns, online advertising to both local and foreign tourists, so we expect even better results – Labovic says.

Numerous foreign tourists are expected to visit Serbia during the New Year’s holidays. Traditionally, the most numerous guests are those from the region – Slovenia, Croatia, B&H, Bulgaria, Romania…

In the past years, there’s been a noticeable increase in the number of tourists from Germany, Turkey, Greece and China who spend the New Year’s holidays in Serbia.
