Decathlon, one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the world, has opened its first store in Serbia, in the Karaburma neighborhood of Belgrade, as part of the recently opened Big Fashion Park.

As Michel Kappler, the CEO of Decathlon for Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia, said, the expectations are big:

– Serbia is the right country for Decathlon. People from Serbia are great fans of sports and exercising. Our concept is to make sports available. We are trying to help everyone who's into sports to be able to be active without spending too much money.

He also announced that the plan was for them to open five to six stores over the next three years.

Kappler says that they've started in Belgrade, where they plan to open three stores, and that they are then to continue in Novi Sad, Nis and Kragujevac.

– This is a very big market in Serbia, as sports are a part of life. We believe that we will be able to satisfy the needs of people active in sports here – he added.
