CTP green buildings in Serbia
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) is one of the most important systems of ranking “green” buildings. It was set up in Great Britain in 1990 and has since spread to all parts of the world. The BREEAM protocol uses recognized and set scales for evaluating technical characteristics, design, construction and exploitation of the facility. The rating system is designed in a way that makes it applicable to any kind of facility, from residential buildings, through office space, commercial and cultural and education institutions, health facilities etc.
The fundamental part of the whole rating system lies in the harmonization with the principles of sustainable development, which have been characterized as measuring the set of influences of a facility on the living environment.
The criteria for the rating of buildings are divided into nine categories: energy (consumption of energy and emission of carbon dioxide), management (company policy, construction site management), health and the interior (noise, light, internal parameters affecting the quality of life), transport (emission of carbon dioxide), water (its consumption and efficiency), materials (impact of construction materials on the environment, emission of carbon dioxide, their life cycle), waste (minimization of waste, efficiency in using resources during the construction), pollution (environmental impact) and ecology (location upgrade, ecological value).
After being rated in these categories, the facility gets one of the following grades: passable, good, very good or excellent and extraordinary.
The certification of buildings in line with the BREEAM standards is carried out by trained, independent experts, and a special Sustainability Board, which oversees the process of certification, the issuing of publications, the standards and other aspects, has been formed as well.
– There are over 425,000 buildings with the BREEAM standard license in the world, and CTP intends to continue building under the principles of sustainable development, in addition to its existing facilities and facilities under construction. We are aware of the negative impact on the environment and we are very proud that CTP, as a group, and also as a company in Serbia, is joining the process of harmonization with the BREEAM standard, thereby becoming the leader in green construction in Serbia – points out Vlatko Djuricek, CTP Country Head for Serbia.
