Tender for new "fixed telephony" operator prior to November 11

The Minister of Telecommunications of Serbia, Jasna Matić, said that she expected that the tender for the second fixed telephony operator would be announced within the next month.

She said that one license would be issued to a fixed telephony operator, that the starting price would not be predefined, so that every bidder would be able to offer the price that he found "adequate", and that the auction for the best bidders would be organized within the scope of the tender.

- We expect the telecommunication operators that already operate in the local market to express interest in this service as well - said the Minister of Telecommunications.

Ms. Matić said that the Information with the conclusion about granting of new license for supply of fixed telephony services on the existing broadband network had been adopted at the meeting of the Government of Serbia on Friday.

As she explained, the Ministry of Telecommunications will pass the Rule book governing the tender terms the next week, based on which the Republic Telecommunications Agency will announce the tender and conduct the procedure.

- We expect the tender to be announced in one month at the latest, and that the whole procedure will be finished by the end of the year - said Ms. Matić.
