Local company Quantox Technology launches programming language in Cyrillic script – Ћ++ brings important global IT issues to the fore
The idea arose spontaneously, quickly turned viral and initiated many questions, one of which is the multiculturalism is the IT world.
– We were traveling to our office in Novi Sad and talking about the Cyrillic script and the Serbian culture, quite symbolically, passing by the Monument to Vuk Karadzic. Someone proposed for us to develop a programming language in the Cyrillic script, and we quickly came up with the name Ћ++. We developed the prototype in 2-3 hours. When we announced this on social networks, the hype was enormous, everybody commented and linked to some earlier, similar projects – Petar Slovic, the Chief Innovation Officer at the company, says for eKapija.
The idea is based on whether the Cyrillic script is used and whether it's applicable in IT, which was one of their challenges.
– It's great that, when we announced this on social networks, which was in fact in the form of a job ad, the community reacted immediately, and not just the IT community either. There were plenty of people from outside the IT world who were delighted with the idea and who supported us, even giving suggestion about how to improve the whole thing and offering their help. It all became viral very soon – Nadja Vukicevic, the company's Marketing and PR Manager, says for our portal.
In order to present their project in detail, they organized a meetup, which included a panel called “Multiculturalism in IT”. Representatives of several IT companies took part in this discussion: Danijel Petrović, COO Quantox Technology, Mladen Dulanović, Game Lead, Nordeus, Marko Gajić, Lead Android developer, Bstorm, and Lazar Travica - Software Engineer, MVP Workshop.
Quantox Technology was formed in 2006 in Cacak. They opened their next office in Belgrade, then in Kragujevac, Nis and Novi Sad, and they are now present in five locations, in each large university place, which also explains their slogan “A Team from the Whole Serbia”. As they say, they advocate the decentralization of IT.
– Thanks to the offices in those cities, we contribute to those local communities, as people don't have to move to Belgrade or Novi Sad, but can get education in their hometowns and stay and work there – Nadja says.
They cooperate with clients from over 15 countries of the world.
– These are mostly foreign clients, but we've been working more and more in the local market lately. We cooperate with Societe Generale Bank, Telenor, Deloitte and other companies which operate in Serbia – Nadja says.
They employ more than 200 experts in programming and are constantly expanding their team. They plan to open offices in some other cities as well.
– Serbia's reputation in IT keeps growing. At any given moment, we have over 40 active projects. It's all very dynamic here. We plan to expand our team as much as possible and we organize practice courses for beginners – Petar says.
