The construction of five underground garages in Novo Naselje was included in the regulation plan by the City Administration while it was up for public review. The plan was for the garages to be offered for a 40-year concession. It is not yet certain whether these propositions will be included in the construction plan for Novo Naselje, as the city's Planning Commission is yet to make a decision about it at a closed session.

Let us remind that the plan to build underground garages in Novo Naselje was mentioned a month and a half ago by the mayor of Novi Sad, Milos Vucevic, on the occasion of the opening of the reconstructed part of Bate Brkica Street.

In line with this, it was said at a session of the Planning Commission that these underground garages with green roofs, with a capacity of 50 to 100 spaces, would be built in the residential blocks around the recently expanded parts of Bate Brkica Street, between Jovana Ducica and Andje Rankovic streets. This means that the residents of this part of Novo Naselje, unlike other residents, will get more room far parking, as they will have underground garages, but they will only be able to use them if they pay the concessionaire. To clarify, the city authorities plan for these garages to be built by a private entity and offered for a 40-year concession at a contest which is planned in the upcoming six months, Novisad.com writes.

However, the fact that the five garages were included in the plan in the form of a complaint, and not as a regular part of the plan that was put up for public review has surprised the members of the Commission, who say that this may have to be put up for a separate public review so that the citizens would be given an opportunity to express their opinions. As they clarified, a special public review will probably be necessary, as the changes are large and will affect the lives of many residents, considering that the garages are to be built on public spaces and that they will not be free to use, 021 reports.
