Over 85% of project related to construction of new thermal block B3 in Kostolac completed

The project of the construction of the new thermal block B3 at EPS’ branch in Kostolac is in progress, and the project is worth USD 613 million. The project is funded with the proceeds from a credit arrangement between Serbia and China.

It is split into 14 phases and carried out in three directions: preparation of project documentation and obtaining of permits and authorizations, preparation and delivery of equipment and execution of works.

– So far, eight building permits have been obtained, which is more than 85% of the project, which opens the possibility of carrying out substantial works at the construction site – Zeljko Lazovic, the manager of the portfolio of the key investments of EPS, told Novosti.

Once the documentation is prepared and the permits are obtained, the construction of the B3 block will begin. Before that, the necessary preparatory works will be carried out at the construction site, which needs to have access routes, power and water supply and a sewer.

Once it’s built, the new block will deliver 2.5 billion kWh of electricity to the electrical energy system each year.

All the works carried out so far have been done by workers from China, hired by the Beijing-based company CMEK, except for the construction of the rail route and the river terminal, which were carried out by local companies.
