Bike lane to be built in Kelebija soon within Opti-bike cross-border cooperation project with Hungary

A total of 7.9 kilometers of bike lanes will be built in the Subotica neighborhoods of Backi Vinogradi and Kelebija within the Opti-bike project (Optimization of transport in the cross-border zone – planning and construction of bike lanes), which is being realized within the Interreg-IPA program of cross-border cooperation between Hungary and Serbia.

After the public procurement procedure ended, the contract was awarded to the Bajmok-based company PTP Dubrava doo, and the value of the works, VAT not included, is RSD 64.8 million, as said on the city’s website.

Akos Ujhelyi, the member of the City Council in charge of economy, pointed out that the contractor had initiated preparatory works and added that the bike lane in Backi Vinogradi will be 4.9 kilometers long.

– We will also start building a bike lane in Kelebija, which will be three kilometers long. The deadline period for the execution of works is 90 days. As part of the Opti-bike project, we will also prepare the project documentation for the construction of 25 kilometers of bike lanes. The total budget of the project is EUR 2.56 million, of which 85% is financed by the European Union, whereas the city is contributing 15%. Our partner towns are Asotthalom and Tompa in Hungary. Tompa has already started building a bike lane, and Asotthalom will soon open a public call – Akos Ujhelyi said.

The main goal of the project is to optimize the traffic in the cross-border zone by planning and building bike lanes.
