Tender for construction of Smederevo Port to open in September 2019 – Freight railroad to future industrial zone to be finished in seven days

The freight railroad in Smederevo, connecting the Port of Smederevo and the future Industrial zone Smederevo with the railway Corridor X will be finished in seven days, announced the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana MihMihajlovic,

The Minister said that the government was going to invest EUR 380 million in railway transport development. As Ministry's press release stated, the tender for the construction of the Smederevo Port would be opened in about 20 days and the works are expected to start in March, 2019.

– It will turn this part of Serbia into a hub when it comes to that kind of freight transport, Mihajlovic while visiting the construction works on the freight railroad and the new train station building in Smederevo.

She stressed that the construction of 7.5 km-long railway connects the industrial zone and the highway, which is the most important strategic goal for that part of Serbia.

The value of the investment for the 7.5-long railway line is EUR 9.5 million.

The contractor for the construction works on the railway is Strabag d.o.o and the Institute of Transportation CIP is the project designer and supervisor

The project encompasses the construction of electrified single-track railway, classification yard and the train station.
