The Celje-based company Celjske Mesnine is interested in purchasing the famous wine cellar Ptujske Kleti, owned by Perutnina Ptuj, Izidor Krivec, the director of Celjske Mesnine told STA.

Perutnina Ptuj has explained that various investors are interested in Ptujske Kleti. According to Krivec, they have been interested in purchasing the cellar for a long time now and have already sent an offer to the management of Perutnine.

Krivec remembers that, several years ago, they bought the Radgonske Gorice cellar, another two meat drying facilities in Kras and an entire company for the processing and sale of meat and meat products, Celje-based Ledas, last year.

If the purchase goes through, Krivec expects their income to increase by 3 to 4 million euros a year, whereas the number of employees would increase from the current 450 by slightly over 20.

Last year, Ptujska Klet’s net sales revenues amounted to EUR 3.6 million, which is EUR 300,000 more than in 2017, with a net profit of nearly EUR 342,000.

Ptujska Klet is one of the oldest wine cellars in Slovenia, dating back to 1239. It has the largest wine archive in central Europe, and the current offer is a combination of the traditional and the modern.

The oldest wine in Slovenia, Zlata Trta, is located here. It dates back to 1917.

The cellar provides a unique experience for its visitors, with light and sound effects combined with images carved on wooden casks. There’s room for around 60 people here, and the program for guests includes a multivision presentation of the past and the present of winemaking in Ptuj.
