- Several large companies from China, Germany and Austria are interested in construction of hydroelectric power plant "Đerdap 3" - said the Minister of Energy and Mining of Serbia, Petar Škundrić, on the occasion of his recent visit to Majdanpek. As the Minister explained, the project for construction of the third power plant on the Danube is also significant because of the fact that Hungary and Bulgaria are building nuclear plants, and they don't have enough power to satisfy the peak demand.

- The project for construction of this power plant exists for years, and it is of strategic importance to Serbia. This third power plant on the Danube should be situated in the vicinity of Donji Milanovac, and "Đerdap 3" would have the power of 4x600 MW, it would cost between 4 and 6 billion EUR, and it would contribute to overall development of the region - said Škundrić.

Construction of hydroelectric power plant "Đerdap 3" would enable accummulation of the night excess power, while the installed strength of this reversible power plant of 2,400 MW represents 34% of existing capacities of EPS. Namely, this power plant would be producing about 7.6 billion kWh of electric power per year, mainly during the night when consumption of electricity is small and when there are no buyers. In the opinion of experts, this energy would be used for returning water into reversible lake, and its power would then be used for production of electric energy in the period of the most profitable price.

Based on estimates, "Đerdap 3" could have 850m kWh of electric energy in gold reserves, which would make it possible for Serbia to become dominant in the regional electricity market and dictate prices. This power plant is one of the most attractive and the most profitable facilities of the kind in Europe.
