The construction of the Sava Avenue in Sabac began on July 10, 2019, and will last nearly 4 months. The works are being carried out in phases, Ksenija Lukic, an architect from the PE Infrastruktura Sabac, says for eKapija.
– The works are currently being carried out to the left of the canal, on the stretch between the Sabac fortress and the wooden bridge at the entrance to the Old Town. Infrastructural works are to be carried out first – water and sewer systems, followed by electrical installations and the paving of cycling and pedestrian lanes. Parallel with this, a parking lot is being built in Kralja Aleksandra Street, in the extension of the Sava Avenue – says Ksenija Lukic.
The sections are split in a way that the Old Town and the fortress are always accessible by foot, as numerous events are held in their vicinity during the summer.
– The bed of the canal will soon be cleaned so that it can be connected to the hydrotechnical system and so that water can flow through it. Water will not be let through it this autumn, but in the spring of 2020, but the bed needs to be cleaned – Lukic adds.
The final phase is the establishment of green areas, as the autumn is the period suitable for planting.
According to the contractor's plans, a major part of the avenue will open for use before September 21, when the Sabac Fair is to be held.
The carrier is the PE Infrastruktura Sabac, which has carried out the public procurement procedure for the execution of the works and which is carrying out the supervision on behalf of the City of Sabac.
The Sava Avenue is also the first step toward the realization of Savapark, as it is a part of this future green complex along the Sava.
