Each second apartment in Serbia built illegally
As said in the recently adopted Strategy of Sustainable Urban Development of Serbia until 2030, the structure of registered and categorized facilities in Serbia is dominated by residential (47.6%) and auxiliary facilities (35.2%), followed by economic (11.92%) and business facilities (1.89%), Blic and Nova Ekonomija write, as reported by Novosti.
Illegally built residential facilities make up 47.24% of the total number of residential facilities.
A square meter in Belgrade has reached the price of EUR 5,000, and the real estate market is wondering more and more whether the bubble is going to burst.
The authors of the strategy remind that, in the period since 1990, the process of illegal construction on a mass scale has been intensified.
The growing problem of the lack of availability of apartments in the period between 1990 and 2000, incited the trend of individual residential construction, through mass extension of the existing facilities in central urban zones, construction of new facilities on public areas in urban zones, usurpation of building land and public areas, construction in planned infrastructural corridors and construction of sub-standard neighborhoods.
