Vranje-based "Meteris" to become central scrapyard for the south of Serbia
In the presence of the Minister of Ecology and Spatial Planning, Oliver Dulić, the mayors of municipalities of Vranje, Surdulica, Vladičin Han, Trgovište, Bujanovac and Preševo have signed the protocol on communal waste management.
- The Ministry will provide support only to those municipalities which cooperate on the regional level in field of waste disposal, as well as in the recycling process. That implies making of local plans for waste management, which should help each municipality realize its economic potential and economic situation in order for the citizens to be able to pay for this type of public utility service - said Dulić and pointed out that the Ministry of Ecology was determined to "implement the complete strategy for communal waste management, as well as for paper and plastic recycling".
The protocol was signed on the seventh anniversary since modern environment-friendly scrapyard "Meteris" was opened in Vranje. This scrapyard has the potentials to become regional dump for the region of Pčinj. On that occasion, the Assistant to the Minister, Gordana Perović, said that scrapyard "Meteris" should be additionally improved in the following period in order to be able to receive waste from all municipalities in the south of Serbia.
- We will be able to do that after every local self-government in this region makes a local plan for communal waste management, in accordance with their needs and capacities - said Perović.
