Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic attended the marking of the beginning of the construction of the State Data Center in Kragujevac today. The center will store data of great importance for the state.

On that occasion, Brnabic said that the construction of the State Data Center was an infrastructural project of national importance, which would secure a systemic and quicker establishment of electronic government information systems, a more efficient linking of various databases and the development of various eGovernment services for citizens, the economy and the state, the Government announced.

Also, as she said, it will be a regional data storage center, one of whose sections will be meant for commercial users. The prime minister announced that, in 12 months, Serbia would get one of the most modern data centers in the world, in which EUR 30 million would be invested and which would lead Serbia into a future of new investments and technologies.

The construction of the State Data Center, she underlined, is also important for the full safety of citizens' data, and Serbia will thereby be placed on the map of countries with their own data centers.

The director of the Office for IT and eGovernment, Mihailo Jovanovic, today signed three memorandums of understanding with Microsoft, Oracle and Postanska Stedionica Bank, which thereby became the first commercial companies to express the intention of keeping their data at this center.

Having signed the documents, Jovanovic emphasized that the construction of the State Data Center was a turning point in the development of eGovernment and the ICT sector in Serbia and said that it would push Serbia forward into the fourth industrial revolution.

According to him, the State Data Center complex will take up four hectares, the facility itself will have 11,000 square meters. Several hundred people will be employed on maintaining the system.

He explained that the data center would be built with maximum energy efficiency in mind, as well as minimal energy consumption, making it one of the 10 most efficient data centers in the world.
