The Morava Airport near Kraljevo will open for civilian air traffic on June 28, Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic announced on June 20.

– From that date, the Morava Airport will function as a civilian-military airport and I am very proud of that, because, thanks to its position, this airport can be significant for cargo transport in this part of Europe. The Morava Corridor, whose construction begins this year, will pass right by the airport. When you add the railway to that, logistically, this will be the best facility in this part of Serbia – Mihajlovic told the press while visiting Corridor 11 to inspect the works.

She added that, due to the perspective of the development of cargo transport, the plan was to expand the runway, and said that it was very important for that part of Serbia to get an airport, in addition to Belgrade and Nis, the ministry says on its website.

– The airport will operate in line with the flight schedule. There are no regular flights at the moment, but there are negotiations with companies interested in carrying passenger and cargo flights from the Morava Airport – Mihajlovic said.

There have been some indications that the first destinations will be in Turkey and Germany.
