Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic said today that, by the end of the year, a monetary fund for the raising of energy efficiency in Serbia would be formed in cooperation with banks and the EU. At the opening of the 2019 Energy Week, he said that “there's a belief in Serbia that energy is cheap and inexhaustible, where neither is true”.

He added that the raising of energy efficiency in 53 facilities in Serbia had shown that the savings amounted to around 40%.

According to him, Serbia is making great efforts to raise energy efficiency, as “those who are late when it comes to this issue will not be able to develop their own country and will pay a lot for energy”.

He said that the energy efficiency fund at the Ministry of Mining and Energy featured more money than in the past four years, around EUR 20 million, and that this working capital would be increased, functioning on the basis of revolving credits.

– By 2020, Serbia will get a gas pipeline which will transfer considerable amounts of gas from Bulgaria toward Hungary (TurkStream) and enable the gasification of Serbia and the construction of power plants powered by gas, one of the cleanest energy sources available – Antic said.
