MIHAJLOVIC: Joint border crossings solution for wait times at borders

Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia and the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Zorana Mihajlovic said today that for Serbia as well as for all other countries in the region establishing joint border crossings was of great importance so that the flow of people and goods would proceed faster and without waiting at the borders.

The statement from the Minister's cabinet says that in her guest appearance on the morning programme on Happy TV, the Minister said that Serbia was in the talks with its neighbors about opening integrated border crossings.

– We are cooperating with Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Montenegro on the construction of one border crossing each. However, EU countries with its own procedures still represent an issue but I think we will be able to come to a same agreement with both Bulgaria and Romania, Zorana Mihajlovic said and added that it was unacceptable that cargo vehicles were being held up to 700 mins at the borders and announced that Serbia would set up a meeting with Ministers of Transport an Internal Affairs from the region in order to solve this problem.

Minister Mihajlovic added that Serbia was “finishing up works on the corridors and opening highways for traffic again.”

– Last year 54 million cars passed through Serbia and by the end of this year we expect that number to reach 60 million, which makes 20 million more cars compared to the numbers from few years ago, Zorana Mihajlovic said.
