Average monthly income per household in Serbia lower by RSD 221 than expenditures

In the fourth quarter of 2018, the average monthly income in money and in kind, per household, amounted to RSD 65,790 and showed an increase of 3.3% in nominal terms, relative to the same quarter of 2017, and an increase of 3.1% relative to the third quarter of 2018, in nominal terms, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia announced.

The individual consumption expenditures of the households, in the fourth quarter of 2018, amounted to RSD 66,011 RSD and showed an increase of 3.0% in nominal terms, relative to the same quarter of 2017, and an increase of 2.8% relative to the third quarter 2018, in nominal terms.

The largest share of income in money and in kind refers to the salaries and wages of the employed – 48.8%, pensions – 32.3%, income from agriculture, hunting and fishing – 5.1%, natural consumption – 3.4%, other income – 2.9%, social insurance receipts – 2.6%, other receipts – 2.5%, and 2.4% refers to income from other sources.

The largest share of the individual consumption expenditures of the households relates to expenditures for food and non-alcoholic beverages – 34.4%, followed by expenditures related to housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels – 17.5%. Expenditures for transport amounted to 9.2%, for miscellaneous goods and services – 5.8%, for communication – 5.2%, for recreation and culture – 5.2%, for clothing and footwear – 5.1%, for alcoholic beverages and tobacco – 4.9%, for health – 4.2%, for furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance – 4.2% and 4.3% relates to other groups of individual consumption.


Of the total number of households envisaged for interview in the fourth quarter of 2018, (2,214 for the Republic of Serbia), the number of 1,578 households (71%) were interviewed.
