Adoption of Law on public warehouses
The Parliament of Serbia adopted the Law on public warehouses for agricultural products on May 29th, which anticipates founding of the Registry of public warehouses that will be under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The company that plans to deal with storing of agricultural products will have to have the space for reception, keeping and delivery of agricultural products, which ensures preservation of quality and hygienic regularity of stored products, as well as equipment for measuring quantity and determining quality.
Public warehouses will have to pay certain fee per ton of stored products and they will not be allowed to reject goods if they have space to store them.
Public warehouses will have to insure the goods from fire, flood, earthquake and theft.
The Law stipulates founding of the Compensation Fund for payment of a damage, which will be enabled through collecting of annual fee from the owners of public warehouses.
It is stated in the explanation of the Law that it will prevent big differences in the prices of purchase of agricultural products during the year and, thus, enable better regulation of the agrarian market.
According to the announcement, founding of public warehouses will enable safe storing of agricultural products, while farmers will be enabled to choose the time when they want to sell their products.
