Juice producers to get quality ingredients at a lower price – Customs fee on concentrated orange juice lower by 5%
– The Group of Producers of Mineral Waters, Fruit Juices and Non-Alcoholic Drinks at the CCIS started an initiative for the reduction of the customs fees on the import of concentrated orange juice. Thanks to the successful dialogue with the ministries of agriculture and finance, the initiative has been successfully realized and the customs fee has been reduced by 4.8% – said Dimitrije Ivanovic, the secretary of the Association for the Food Industry at the CCIS.
Importers of ingredients will benefit as well and Serbian products will become more competitive in the local and the foreign market, Ivanovic added.
– Nectar imports quality Brazilian oranges and used to pay a customs fee of 20%, as opposed to 12.2%, which is the EU standard. The lowering to 15.2% certainly benefits consumers as well – said Mihailo Jankovic, the director of Nectar Group.
Svetislav Parezanin, the director of AFC, which imports the ingredients from Brazil, says that the unusual situation where the import of orange juices was duty-free, whereas the customs fee for the import of ingredients was 20%, has now been corrected.
– As the strategic goal of our government is to join the EU, we expect the customs fee to be further lowered to 12.2% – Parezanin said.
The adviser at the Association for the Food Industry at the CCIS, Saska Biorcevic, says that 2,500 to 3,000 tons of concentrated orange juice is imported each year to Serbia. Over 70% is imported from Brazil.
