Fruit and vegetable farmers will be able to secure their plantations under favorable terms beginning with 2019. The Municipality of Topola will initiate the pilot project “50 hectares for 50 farms”, and the project entails the provision of 10-year loans for these farmers for a hectare of the anti-hail net.

– This will be a pilot project, the first one in Serbia where the municipality, the state, through the Ministry of Agriculture, commercial banks and insurance companies will all work together to enable the covering of as many parcels as possible with the anti-hail net in the upcoming years under very favorable terms – said the president of the Municipal Assembly of Topola, Dragan Jovanovic.

In mid-January, the Municipality of Topola will open a public call for all interested farmers. The most important criterion is that applicants have a good credit standing.

– The Municipality of Topola will cover the interest on the sum, and the state will pay returns of 50%. We expect the installation of the net on one hectare will not exceed EUR 9,500, which means that, for around EUR 4,800, a farmer will get a hectare of the net with a repayment period of 10 years without an interest, as the state is providing a subsidy of 50% of the invested sum – Jovanovic pointed out.
