Train speed raised on 220 km of rail network in Serbia – Reconstruction of another 320 kilometers of regional railways to follow in 2019
– Railways Sabac-Loznica-Brasina, Novi Sad Orlovat-Zrenjanin and Pozarevac-Majdanpek have opened for traffic, and railways Pancevo-Orlovat, Mala Krsna-Pozarevac and Predejane-Dzep are in the final stages of the reconstruction – said Miroljub Jevtic, the company’s director.
In the new schedule, which comes into effect on December 9, the number of train routes allocated to road and cargo transport operators has been increased by 15% to 1,811.
As Jevtic said, the next year will see works on the construction of the Belgrade-Novi Sad high speed railway and the beginning of the reconstruction of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad railway from the proceeds from the EIB loan, Nis-Brestovac from IPA funds and Jajinci-Mala Krsna from the EBRD loan. Regional railways Nis-Zajecar, Lapovo-Kraljevo, Subotica-Senta, Markovac-Resavica, Kumane-Banatsko Milosevo and Kikinda-MSK Kikinda will be reconstructed as well.
Beginning with December 9, there will be 400 passenger trains on railways in Serbia, operating daily, two more than now.
There will be five cargo transporters, two more than last year – Srbija Кargo, Кombinovani prevoz, Despotija, Eurorail Logistics i NCL Neo Cargo Logistic.
