Potential launch of direct Belgrade-Toronto service by end-2020 – Decision up to Air Serbia

Kati Csaba, the Canadian Ambassador to Serbia, stated in her interview with Blic that the launch of a direct Belgrade-Toronto air service could be expected over the next two years.

Last year, Blic writes, the finalization of the air transport agreement, which would enable direct flights from Belgrade to Toronto, was announced. When asked how much progress has been made, Ambassador Csaba says that the agreement was finally signed this May.

– The agreement now allows us to move on in a practical sense toward the launch of a direct air service between Belgrade and Toronto. The embassy is negotiating with Air Serbia in order to see what their interest is and I believe that this air route has great potential indeed – Csaba stated.

She added that the Serbian diaspora in Canada was numerous and that it would mean a lot to them to be able to travel to Belgrade easily, but that the air service could be very useful for the business community as well, as the aim is to actively promote mutual cooperation.

– The decision is up to Air Serbia, but it will surely take four to six months after the application is obtained for the entire process which needs to be carried It could happen in 2019, but 2020 is a more realistic projection. It's all up to Air Serbia, of course – Csaba says.
