The Government of Serbia has announced the plan for economic stability today (April 7, 2009), which anticipates 1 billion EUR worth of budget savings based on cheaper government administration.

The new package of measures anticipates freezing of salaries in the government, provincial and local administration, public companies and agencies, as well as pensions.

It has been decided that the salaries in government administration should be cut temporarily, until the end of the year. The salaries larger than 40,000 RSD will be reduced by 10%, while the salaries above 100,000 RSD will be cut by 15%.

The Government has also decided to increase excise tax on gasoline by 2 RSD and tax on diesel fuel by 4 RSD per liter.

Temporary tax of 10% on impulses in mobile telephony and tax on property and luxury vehicles have also been introduced.
