The agreement on the construction of the Belgrade gondola between Kalemegdan and Park Usce, worth EUR 15 million, was signed today at the City Assembly of Belgrade, and the plan is for the construction to be completed by the end of the year.

The line will be one kilometer long, have 25 luxurious cabins and transport three thousand passengers an hour. The project will be carried out by the PE Ski Resorts of Serbia.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic, Mayor of Belgrade Zoran Radojicic and the director of Ski Resorts of Serbia, Dejan Cika.

Radojicic said that the city would invest RSD 600 million in the construction, whereas the rest of the funds would be provided by the ministry.

– This is a capital project, which will enable the development of the tourism in the City of Belgrade and facilitate the connection between the two parts of the city. This year, we have had a million guests, and the total income from tourism increased by 15 to 20% compared to 2017 and amounts to around EUR 800 million – Radojcic said.

Ljajic said that Belgrade was a leader in tourism and that 53% of the total number of tourists who visit Serbia come to its capital.

– The project is important because it will increase Serbia's tourism revenues. The period of return on the investments is five to seven years at the most, but we expect all the investments to return in under six years – Ljajic said.

The minister said that Belgrade had large tourism capacities and announced the construction of the Ski Center in Avala, the construction of five wharves in Zemun, the reconstruction of Sava Centar and the construction of the biggest amusement park in the Balkans.

Cika said that the gondola would start off with a minimum capacity of 3,000 passengers an hour, but that he expected it to eventually reach the maximum capacity of 6,000.

He added that the inclusion of the gondola in the public transport system was also being considered.
