By introducing noodles as a new product category in the Rulebook on the quality of grains, mill and baked products and pasta, as well as by considerably reducing the customs duties on palm oil and spices, three initiatives of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS) and noodle manufacturers have been adopted, which will increase the production, improve the competitiveness and reduce the operating costs, the CCIS announced.

– Before the Government of Serbia adopted the amendments to the Rulebook, producers of noodles, representatives of foreign companies, had a problem in our market, as instant noodles, according to local regulations, weren't categorized as products in any rulebook on quality – pointed out Saska Biorcevic, an adviser at the Association for the Food Industry at the CCIS.

With the adoption of the amendments to the rulebook, with the support of the CCIS, the said problem has been solved, Biorcevic added and invited companies to file their initiatives and proposals for the enhancement of operations to the Chamber. The CCIS has forwarded 66 initiatives of the economy to the Government of Serbia and state institutions this year, of which 21 have been completed successfully.

– The company IndoAdriatic Industry had filed an initiative to the Association for the Food Industry asking for a new rulebook to be prepared or the existing one to be amended, as producers and importers of raw ingredients had been subject to the violation of the current law or the payment of high importing fees. The raw ingredients used in the production of noodles are largely different from those used in baked and mill products – emphasized Nebojsa Panic, CEO of IndoAdriatic Industry.

As he said, the response was more than encouraging and the Association was ready to help amend the current Rulebook. In a short amount of time, the Association formed a work group with an expert team consisting of representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, noodle manufacturers and other relevant parties.

The Indjija-based IndoAdriatic Industry produces and distributes instant noodles of the INDOMIE brand from Indonesia, and has been operating in Serbia for eight years. In addition to supplying the local market, the factory exports its products to Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Romania and Albania.
