Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic today ordered an extraordinary inspection supervision of all bridges in Serbia that are longer than 100 meters.

The extraordinary supervision will be carried out by a team of experts from the said ministry and road and rail transport companies.

Road and rail bridges in Serbia built several decades ago and treated and reconstructed in the meantime will be subject to the control and the inspection, the competent ministry announced.

The aim of the extraordinary inspection supervision will be the control of the documentation and the structure of the bridges.

The press release says that public enterprises Infrastructure of Serbian Railways and Roads of Serbia, within their competence, regularly control all bridges on railways, highways and regional roads.

The extraordinary supervision was ordered a day after the tragedy in Genoa, Italy, where several dozen people were killed when a motorway bridge collapsed.
