The construction of a new facility of the Prosecution Office for Organized Crime will begin in 2019, the Ministry of Justice has announced.

As they say for eKapija, the preparatory design activities are in progress, to be followed by the designing phase, which will be realized by the end of 2018.

The ministry is planning the enhancement of spatial capacities for the needs of the Prosecution Office for Organized Crime, as well as of special departments of the Higher Court in Belgrade (Special Department for Organized Crime and Special Department for War Crimes), located at 29 Ustanicka Street in Belgrade.

The plan includes the construction of a new facility along with the existing one, with around 4,000 m2.

As the design phase is yet to take place, the time needed for the construction cannot be specified at the moment, but has been projected at around a year to a year and a half, according to the ministry.

The works, worth around EUR 4.5 million, will be funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The Ministry of Justice has been paying special attention to the strengthening of the judicial infrastructure for several years now. Good workplace conditions at courts and prosecution offices have a direct impact on the efficiency of the whole system through shorter procedures, more frequent hearings and an increase in the number of court session days, the ministry says.

They add that, in the past four years, over 75,000 m2 of space in over 30 facilities throughout Serbia has been adapted , renovated and built, making for considerably improved work conditions of judicial institutions.

The buildings of judicial institutions in Kraljevo, Prijepolje, Lazarevac, Arandjelovac, Sremska Mitrovica and Zajecar, with nearly 14,000 m2 in total, have been fully renovated. New buildings were raised for the Civil Court in Pancevo and the Civil Court in Pozarevac, as well as the civil and the commercial courts in Uzice.

The works on the full revitalization of the Palace of Justice in Belgrade, with over 24,000 m2, are in progress, and the construction of the new Palace of Justice in Kragujevac, with nearly 25,000 m2, are to start soon. The project-technical documentation for the construction of a new judicial facility in Novi Sad, has also been completed.

A new prison in Pancevo, with 24,000 m2, has also been built, and the opening is expected this autumn.
