Serbian Minister of Agriculture Branislav Nedimovic has said that the export of fruit to Russia “is going very well” and that he expects the temporary ban on the export of peaches and nectarines to the country, in effect from today, to take seven to ten days, depending on the results of the analyses being carried out in Serbia and Russia.

This year, 110,000 tons of fruit has been exported to Russia, worth around EUR 150 million, Nedimovic told RTS, as reported by Tanjug.

The minister of agriculture said that Russian colleagues had sent a memo concerning re-ionization, in order to determine in which areas in Serbia the fungus was detected, so as to avoid placing the ban on fruit from the entire country.

The appearance of the fungus is a consequence of a rainy year. Nedimovic says that these peaches can be consumed without a problem, but that the Russians demand goods of the highest quality.

Commenting on the detection and the destruction of spoiled meat in Cuprija, the minister said that certain media have reported false information. He said that the cooling plant had been sealed and that the state had done its part and added that this proved the existence of the principle of a legal state.
