Deadline for extension of Internet addresses in old “.yu“ domain expires today (March 2nd, 2009), and all domains that are not extended will be deactivated, which means that they will not be visible on the Internet.

As Goran Milanković from the Registry of National Internet Domain of Serbia (RNIDS) explained for Beta agency, about 2,500 such addresses have been extended so far, about 600 of which have been extended since Friday.

There were 40,000 addresses in "yu" domain and, according to the data provided by RNIDS, 27,000 addresses have been registered in new domain "rs".

According to earlier announcement, the owners of “yu“ domains will have additional time, prior to April 30th, to extend old domains and make them active again. In case they fail to do that, their addresses will be deleted from the registry for good, and they will not be able to reactivate them.

When the addresses are deactivated, related electronic mail addresses are deactivated as well.

Domain “yu“ will cease to exist on September 30, 2009.

Deadline for registration of Internet websites of the Government administration in new domain "gov.rs" expired at the end of October 2008.

So far, over 49,000 addresses in the new domain of Serbia have been registered.
