Based on the technical results realized in Serbia, the Serbian Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has met the requirements for joining the European Environment Agency (EEA), said Hans Bruyninckx, Executive Director of the EEA.

Bruyninckx pointed out that the EEA wanted to implement the knowledge of the two institutions in the policies, thereby raising the quality of the environment and nature in Serbia.

Serbian Minister of Environmental Protection Goran Trivan and the director of the SEPA, Filip Radovic, met with the highest representatives of the EEA, visiting Serbia for the first time.

Trivan emphasized the importance of the first visit of the executive director of the EEA and his positive assessment of Serbia's progress in the field of ecology and its reaching of European standards in the collection and the analysis of environmental data.

– This kind of a visit provides hope and support. The hope that we can believe in ourselves and that people in the European Union understand us and deem our results worthy – Trivan said and emphasized that the Ministry would provide full support to the SEPA in the process of joining the EEA.

In the upcoming years, he said, the SEPA will become the technical, professional and scientific backbone in the implementation of environmental policies in Serbia.

According to him, other organizations which will help Serbia reach European standards, and even more importantly, raise the quality of the environment in the country, will be founded as well.

Filip Radovic said he was satisfied that the efforts had produced results that had been recognized and that an opportunity was created for the Agency to become a full member of a great European family by having the opportunity to take part in the realization of important international projects in the field of environmental protection.
