Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic stated that Etihad was not withdrawing from Air Serbia, in which it has a 49% stake, whereas 51% belongs to the Government of Serbia.

Mihajlovic stated for the Sunday issue of Politika that there was also a plan for the launch of new services from Belgrade to Beijing and Canada in 2018.

When asked what the last year's operations of Air Serbia had been like, since Etihad announced three days ago that the 2017 loss amounted to USD 1.52 billion, Mihajlovic said that, according to her data, “it's the best they could do under these circumstances”.

– To us it's important for the national airline to persevere in this area and be as strong as it was in the previous years – Mihajlovic said.

She said that she expected the takeover of the Nikola Tesla Airport by the concessionaire, France's Vinci, to be completed in late September and that the government would subsequently publish the agreement with the concessionaire.
