- There will be total of 4 interstate border crossings at the border with Hungary by the end of this year - said Miodrag Đidić, the State Secretary within the Ministry of Finance, yesterday (January 22, 2009) in Subotica. In addition to existing border crossings Horgoš and Kelebija, former local border crossings Bajmok and Đala will receive a higher rank. Opening of a border crossing near Bački Vinogradi is also in the pipeline.
Đidić and Mayor Saša Vučunić agreed at the meeting that the new terminal should be built in the vicinity of border crossing Kelebija, which would be preceded by the exchange of 5 ha of land between the Customs Administration and local self-management in Subotica.
In that way, the issue of storage charge collection will be resolved. Namely, according to the EU customs regulations, the storage services at border terminals should be free of charge, whereas the storage charge for trucks at border crossing Kelebija amounts to 700 RSD.
Đidić and Vučunić also agreed that the new location should be provided for free zone, which would make space for creation of new jobs. As it was explained to the press, Subotica plans to open ten new free zones, while local self-management will make sure that the investors get special benefits.
