Banks in Serbia and CEE asked ECB to increase financial aid to the region
Nine international banks that operate in central and east Europe have submitted the request to European Central Bank (ECB) to increase financial aid for that region.
The most responsible for the banks' joint request is Austrian Raiffeisen
Bank. Aforementioned group of banks also includes Italian banks
UniCredit and Intesa
Sanpaolo, Austrian Erste Bank, French Societe Generale Bank, Belgian KBC, German Bayern Landesbank and Greek EFG Eurobank.
According to "Financial Times", the banks are of the opinion that the funds for stimulation of liquidity and initiation of credit activities should not be granted exclusively to the new members of EU, but that they should also be offered to other countries, such as Serbia and Ukraine
The banks reacted after the European Commission announced the latest economy forecasts that anticipate reduction of EU's gross national product by 1.8% in 2009.
