The president of the Nezavisnost Trade Union Confederation, Zoran Stojiljkovic, said on Friday, June 1, 2018, that he expected the new labor law to be adopted only in 2020.

At a round table about labor legislature in Serbia, he said that the preparation of the action plan for the implementation of the law, aiming to harmonize it with the EU acquis and to enable the opening of accession negotiations Chapter 19, Social Policy & Employment, was late.

– There are also problems with the preparation of the new law on strike, as employers, the state and trade unions can’t agree about what minimum service entails – Stojiljkovic said.

He added that the state wanted to define the minimum service for many state institutions, such as schools and kindergartens, whereas, in the world, this pertains only to several services, one of which is the medical emergency service.

The Nezavisnost TUC, he said, will not support the proposition to have a general law on strike regulate this issue and then to have numerous fields regulated by a particular law.
