The Privatization Agency has announced that Port "Novi Sad" will be offered for sale at the end of March, although the authorities in Vojvodina started the initiative for exclusion of the port from the privatization process. According to them, that port should be run by the city and the province.

- The negotiations between the provincial and republic government about the exclusion of the port from the privatization process, which is the only real solution, are underway – said the CEO of that company, Milenko Milivojević, for Beta agency.

As he explained, there is no prívate port in Europe, except for some piers that are used for prívate purposes. He said that Russia, which had sold its port in Sankt Peterburg five years before, had bought it back at 2.5 times higher price, while Hungary, which had sold all of its ports, was building five new ones at the moment.

According to Milivojević, the case of Port “Beograd” should not happen again in Novi Sad since that port was sold at the price that was much lower that the real one. He added that, in addition to economic indices, we must have in mind that the port, water and coastal area were collective goods "and that they should not be sold for any reason".

The estimated value of total capital of the port amounts to approximately 10.2m EUR. The starting price on the auction will be 179.8m RSD, and the buyer will be obliged to invest minimum 881.2m RSD in the port.
