The possibilities of enhancing the cooperation in the field of environmental protection were the main topic of the conference Serbia-Korea International Cooperation – Ecological Delegation and Natural Environment Projects, held on Monday, May 21, 2018, in Belgrade.

The event was opened by Minister of Environmental Protection Goran Trivan and Ambassador of South Korea to Serbia Dae Jong Yoo.

Minister Trivan expressed the interest and the openness of Serbia for the development of cooperation with foreign partners and green investments from countries such as South Korea, which, as he said, could bring Serbia closer to European and global standards.

– The problems and the devastation of the environment in our country, from buried hazardous waste, plastic bags we find in river areas, to jeopardizing biodiversity, all these are good reasons for us to change things for the better and a challenge for us to fight for a healthier and cleaner Serbia – Trivan pointed out.

Emphasizing that the conference marks a new chapter in the relations between Serbia and South Korea in the field of environmental protection, the minister expressed the openness for the concretization of cooperation initiatives.

– Serbia has a great scientific and expert potential, as well as quality workforce, which is a significant capacity for the development of cooperation in the field of environmental protection – Trivan said.

He added that companies from South Korea which have environmental protection as an integral part of their business policy were welcome to Serbia, as they would help improve the environment and create new jobs in Serbia.

Ambassador Dae Jong Yoo pointed out that the degradation of the environment was a global issue requiring a complex response on an international level.

– Korea is ready to share its experiences in environmental protection pertaining to developed technical solutions in the field. We are looking forward to all forms of cooperation with Serbia in the field of ecology, development of bilateral cooperation and future green investment projects – the ambassador said.

The conference was organized by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and the Chamber of Commerce of Green Serbia.
