Vojvodina and Tunisia interested in economic cooperation – Concrete projects to be discussed in June
Last week, Djokovic met with the ambassador during his first official visit to the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
Emphasizing the fact that there is a lot of room for cooperation with Tunisia, whose market has around 11 million citizens, Djokovic notes that this North African state has the biggest gross domestic product on the entire continent and that it is constantly growing.
– Tunisia is included in the European Neighborhood Policy, which provides it with import-export advantages, enabling it to export more than 80% of its products to the EU. Also, there's a Free Trade Agreement with seven of the leading African countries, so the foreign trade capacity is big and might become even bigger, especially regarding olive oil, fish, dates, textile products – Djokovic pointed out.
During the meeting with the Tunisian delegation, Djokovic also discussed the possibilities of cooperation in economy, import and export potential, especially tourism, considering that Tunisia used to be one of the favorite destinations for tourists from Serbia. Furthermore, the tourism market of the region and Serbia is opening to a greater extent for tourists from northern Africa, but also for remote markets, such as China.
– The good political climate and the friendship with Tunisia date back to 1965, when the former Yugoslavia established the cooperation by signing a bilateral agreement on friendship and visa-free travel. For us, Tunisia has been a tourist region primarily since then. All the factors point to our products and know-how in agriculture, tourism and geothermal potential being welcome to their market, so we can really bring the foreign trade to a considerably higher level than the current one, where Tunisia takes the modest 57th spot on the list of countries cooperating with Serbia – Djokovic said.
He also announced that he would take part in the international investment forum held in Tunisia in June, so that concrete investment projects might start.
