Serbia has achieved great progress in the field of infrastructure and upgrading railways in the past three years, it was said at the meeting between the Director General of the Infrastructure of the Serbian Railways, Miroljub Jevtic, and the Executive Director of the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER), Libor Lochman, held on Friday, May 11, 2018.

Jevtic said that the biggest project in progress was the high speed railway Belgrade – Subotica – the Hungarian Border and that it was split into three sections, two of which are financed with the proceeds from the Chinese loan, whereas one is financed from the Russian loan, the Infrastructure of the Serbian Railways announced.

– The investment in the railway infrastructure is currently worth EUR 2 billion, and the Government of Serbia plans to invest another billion euros – Jevtic pointed out.

He announced the opening of two tenders for works to be financed with the proceeds from the loan of the European Investment Bank by the end of the year, namely, for the section of the first phase of the Nis – Dimitrovgrad railway and the railway from Belgrade to Mala Krsna.

According to Jevtic, low-speed rail rides have been reduced from 300 to 150 kilometers in the past six months in Serbia, and the repair of three regional railways in the total length of 250 kilometers, more than has been done in the past 25 years, will be completed by the end of the year.
