Hellenic Sugar guarantees 32 euro cent sugar beet purchase price to growers

Christos Alexopoulos, spokesman of Greek company Hellenic Sugar, said yesterday that the company, which owns Crvenka Sugar Factory, guarantees that the price arranged will be 32 euro cents.

He added that Hellenic Sugar will monitor the sugar price on the London Stock Exchange and as the price grows the company will raise its purchase price too. Alexopoulos said that the price and payments arranged would be stimulative and added that 60 tons per hectare sugar beet yield and sugar amount larger than 15 % would not be hard to accomplish.

Speaking on sugar price Alexopoulos pointed out that that last years drought had decreased sugar yield but also that unfavourable market conditions caused by the elimination sugar sale quotas on the European market have influenced the price drop.
