Industrija Mesa Srem Sid (Meat Industry Srem Sid) is now officially owned by the consortium of Agropapuk and Djurdjevic
, and the owner of the meat packing plant Djurdjevic, Milenko Djurdjevic, said that they would invest EUR 3.5 million together with Agropapuk and added that investments in the neighboring farms were important as well.
The owner of Agropapuk, Bratislav Bogatic, says that the meat packing plant will now be revived, that a large number of people will be employed and that livestock farming will be brought to another level.
IM Srem Sid, which used to be in bankruptcy from 2001, will process up to 400 head of livestock a day and export to Turkey, as envisaged by Serbia’s agreement with the country.
Srem Sid was formed nearly a century ago as a workshop. Later on, it became a state-of-the—art facility in the meat industry, whose products were exported to the markets of Western Europe, and it used to employ 2,000 people.
However, in 2001, it ceased operations, and now, 17 years later, a new chapter in its development begins.
Minister of Agriculture Branislav Nedimovic said that the industry had bigger cooling capacities than all the meat packing plants in the area. He wished them to start working as soon as possible and highlighted the importance of the fact that they will employ a large number of people.
