Agreement about rehabilitation of rails in Serbia signed with the German Railways

Representatives of the Government of Serbia and German Railways (DB) have signed today, December, 16th, 2008, in Berlin ab Agreement of understanding.

Based on this Agreement, there will be prepared feasibility study for modernization of railway network in Serbia, during the next year.

The Document was signed by the member of the Management Board of German railways, assigned for commerce and politics, Otto Wiesheu, and the Vice President of the Serbian Governmnet and Minister of economy and regional development, Mladjan Dinkic and Minister for infrastructure, Milutin Mrkonjic.

German Minister of commerce and technology, Michael Glos was also present on this occasion, which is a start of preparatory phase of the project of railway rehabilitation, worth 4,5 billion dollars.

Expressing satisfaction that Serbia is confirming with this move as well that it is joining “EU family”, German Minister said that “good relationships are important, not only between humans, but also within traffic which provides commercial exchange”.

Mladjan Dinkic stated that right after signing of this Document, which secures participation of Germany in rehabilitation of Serbian railway, they would ask from European Union funds the means for realization of this project, and he is counting on Berlin’s support on this too.
German railway has turned after 20 years from the company living out of state’s subventions and with losses into a company which made profit of 2,4 billion euros, in the last year.
